Bombardier to maintain commuter trains

Bombardier will be responsible for maintenance of locomotives and passenger rail cars on the Dorion-Rigaud, Blainville-St. Jérôme and Delson-Candiac lines under a three-year, $34-million deal.MONTREAL – As of July 1, Bombardier will be be responsible for maintenance on three Montreal commuter train lines, taking over a job currently performed by Canadian Pacific.

Last year, Montreal’s regional transit authority, the Agence métropolitaine de transport, in part blamed CP’s maintenance for winter train delays, prompting a stern rebuke from CP.

Under the three-year, $34-million deal announced on Friday, Bombardier will be responsible for maintenance of locomotives and passenger rail cars on the Dorion-Rigaud, Blainville-St. Jérôme and Delson-Candiac lines.

"The Montreal commuter rail system is undergoing an important transformation and we're happy to maike a contribution in collaboration with the MTC," said Raymond Bachant, president of Bombardier Transportation North America.

The AMT has said it plans to build a $119-million maintenance facility for the three lines in Lachine.
