Workers represented by the CAW at Molson Coors Source: CNW
Published: July 4, 2007 Printer friendly versionCoors Brewery in Edmonton, Alberta have entered into their fifth week on strike. More than 100 workers have been off the job since May 30 when Molson Coors insisted on establishing a two-tier wage and pension plan among workers and that workers bear the brunt of other large concessions. On June 28, CAW National Secretary-Treasurer Jim O'Neil, CAW Local 284 President Garth Sanderson and National Representative Todd Romanow met with Molson Coors officials to try to resolve the strike, with the union offering cost-saving measures. On Tuesday, the company rejected the union offer which could have meant the end of the strike and a re-instatement of summer production. The CAW will be considering various methods of recourse which may include a national boycott. The Alberta Federation of Labour has already called for a province-wide boycott of all Molson Coors products. |
